For Saturday July 14: When the summer Saturday afternoon gets long and hot, leave the shop in the hands of your favorite money-hungry teenager and come up to St Johnsbury for the big Kingdom Books poetry event of the summer: Four Poets and a Publisher, with poets Ellen Doré Watson, Lesle Lewis, Nancy Lagomarsino, and Lesle Lewis, all published by Alice James Books -- and the publisher of AJB, April Ossmann. This is a great chance to become familiar with New England's strong poets (making you better able to sell their work!), and to connect with a publisher in person (if you're a closet poet, this is especially valuable, and Ossmann is great to talk with). Note that Ellen Doré Watson is also an editor for the Mass. Review and director of the Poetry Center at Smoth College. Kingdom Books is hosting the 3 p.m. event in the air-conditioned comfort of St. J's Catamount Arts building, and we'll have some books on hand -- plus we'll open our shop afterward, an easy 5 miles away, with a bite to eat for all of you who drive a ways to attend. From the vabamiallist, May 4, 2007: I just got the menu for our meeting at the Fair Haven Inn. We have a choice of three entrees: Chicken Tuscany, a chicken and pasta dish with artichokes; Fish L'Greque, fresh large fillet, sprinkled with nutlike crumbs, feta and butter then baked lightly, fresh fish to be determined; and Pork Tenderloin Madeira. The fish and pork come with a choice of pasta or rice pilaf. Dessert will be ice cream. Please let me know if you are coming and what you'd like for dinner so I can give the Inn a number.

Members are invited to begin gathering at 9:30 a.m. for coffee, pastry and book sales. The cost is a ridiculously low $10.00 per person.

This summer The Book Shed will be running an on-going sale of all books stocked in 2004 and earlier. Any book with a date code of 2004 through 1999 will be sold at 30% off. Stock of earlier vintage or without date codes will go for 50% off. The sale will commence with a VABA Members Only Sale on the weekend of May 19-20. As noted in the email announcing the Spring Meeting in Fair Haven, all 2004 and earlier books will be for sale to members at 50% off and 30% off anything more recent. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of our colleagues that weekend, at the meeting and in the store!

The 14th Annual Vermont Antiquarian Spring Book Fair is happening on April 15th at the Sheraton Hotel in Burlington. See over thirty dealers in rare, used and antiquarian books and paper, including postcards, prints and ephemera.
